Welcome to the Traverse City chapter of Silent Book Club. SBC isn’t your average book club. There are no assigned readings or discussion guides. You bring a book, any book, and we read quietly, companionably, for an hour.
Carol Danly, the founder of the Traverse City chapter of SBC, is moving downstate. We wish her and Pete the best of luck in their new adventures! Three new folks have stepped up to the plate to take on leading the chapter: Gabi Walton, Amber Pelton, and myself (Lindsey Duddles). We are looking into locations for upcoming meetings.
Come say goodbye to Carol and Pete and enjoy reading in their company at our Thursday, March 14th meeting at Grand Traverse Pie Company (Original Location), 525 W. Front St. Arrive between 10:00am and 10:20am, with introductions and announcements starting at 10:20am.
See you there, and be on the lookout for more information on upcoming meetings. Our April meeting will be taking place on April 4th!

A LETTER FROM THE CO-FOUNDERS OF SILENT BOOK CLUB:
In 2012, we had no idea that this lark of an idea would spark a global movement. The concept was simple: gather with fellow book lovers, enjoy the company of others without the pressure of conversation, and lose yourself in the pages of a good book. Today Silent Book Club has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, with more than 500 chapters in 50 countries across 6 continents.
Silent Book Club meetups are as diverse as the communities they serve. Some meet in cozy cafes or hotel bars, while others gather in libraries, parks, or in the ruins of a medieval Italian monastery.
Some chapters meet monthly, while others meet weekly. But regardless of the setting, frequency, or format (in person! online! both!), the core purpose of Silent Book Club remains the same: to provide a space for people to come together and enjoy the simple pleasure of reading.
Over the years, Silent Book Club has hosted a wide range of events and programs. From virtual author talks during the pandemic to reading retreats, book-to-movie screenings, book playlists, indie bookstore crawls, SBC swag, and "blind date with a book" nights, Silent Book Club is always embracing new ways to celebrate the joy of reading.
But at its heart, Silent Book Club is about more than just reading. It's about creating a sense of community and belonging. It's about providing a space where people can feel comfortable being themselves, without the need for pretense or small talk.
As we celebrate the milestone of passing 500 chapters, we look forward to continuing to grow and connect with book lovers around the world. So grab your favorite book, find a Silent Book Club near you, and join us in celebrating the power of reading to bring people together.

NEW LOCATION: Join us now on the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Grand Traverse Pie Company's original location--525 WEST Front St in the meeting room.
We gather between 10:00 and 10:20 AM. Then, we begin our "meeting" with announcements followed by (optional) brief introductions. Some attendees choose to share with us the title they are reading. Next, we just chill out in each other's company reading quietly. After an hour of reading, we officially adjourn. Some of us continue to read, some socialize/have lunch together and others call it a day.
